When I was going through chemo, I was determined to take matters into my own hands. As it turns out, you actually don’t have to feel as crappy as everyone tells you that you’ll feel!

Hi!  I’m Karianne and I’m so excited you’re here!

As you may have gathered by now, I’m a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.  I am also a shower singer, gut-gummy maker (and avid consumer!), thrifter extraordinaire, and lover of all soft clothes. I’m married to a man that has very much earned his hashtag--#sweetmikejo. We love to travel, play games together, and speak in song to each other.

People regularly asked me how I got into Nutritional Therapy. Well, here we go! It all started in Ecuador when I was 18. It was the first rain of the season and I was overjoyed--so much so that I ran through the street barefoot like a gleeful goon. Honestly, I have no idea if that was correlated or just coincidental, but the next day, I was SO Pharaoh-type sick. If you don’t know what that is, don’t look it up--just ask a trusted friend and be ready for a TMI moment. After that, I continued to get very sick every two weeks to the day. All tests came back normal and I was “diagnosed” with IBS. This “IBS” didn’t seem to go away, so I started putting on my amateur detective hat to see what was the culprit. Long story short, I found out that I had had a parasite...ten years later!!! Yes, ten long years of horrible GI symptoms.

Just nine months after the parasite was discovered, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. “You shouldn’t wait any longer than three weeks to start chemo.” Whoa. That took a turn! Well, when I was going through chemo, I was determined to take matters into my own hands as much as I could and began researching like a crazy woman. As it turns out, you actually don’t have to feel as crappy as everyone tells you that you’ll feel!

A friend had told me about the Nutritional Therapy Association many years prior, but I had convinced myself that I wasn’t smart enough to do something like that (I later discovered that I was wrong). Four and a half months after I finished chemo (cancer-free, I might add!!), I began the Nutritional Therapy Practitioner course through the NTA. The more I learned, the more I became fully convinced that I had found my thing. It took 29 years, but it happened! Now, I get to work with all kinds of clients that are ready to think outside the box and grab the bull by the horns in their own health journeys. While some of my clients are battling cancer or recovering from treatment, many of my clients are seeking general well-being and working toward improving their health to avoid winding up with a life-threatening diagnosis. Either way, I’m here to help you figure out how this miraculous body that you’re in works and how to help it function as best as it possibly can!

Hear from a Satisfied client:

I had begun to feel stretched and pulled in many directions and realized I needed help to get my health refocused as a priority. Then I met Karianne and I instantly knew she was the answer to my prayers for help! During our time together I realized how my stress levels had robbed me of the ability to listen to my body. Karianne helped me find my breath, increase water intake, and feel empowered to make more necessary changes. I have continued to lower stress levels in my life and stay focused on my health. I felt so inspired by Karianne’s help that I recently completed a cleanse/detox and  successfully released 11 pounds! Thank you Karianne for reminding me how important my health is and for being an amazing blessing in my health journey !

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is the art and science of finding the root cause of a person's health challenges.  It definitely takes some detective work, which I love! Instead of merely addressing a symptom, my goal as practitioner is to figure out what might be going on under the surface and help support the body on the most foundational level.  And ya know what? When we do that, symptoms tend to decrease and the body is a whole lot happier.

When I talk about the “foundational level,” I’m talking about these foundations specifically:

  1. Nutrient-Dense, Whole Foods Diet

  2. Hydration

  3. Digestion

  4. Sugar Handling

  5. Minerals

  6. Vitamins

When those foundations are balanced and well, the rest of the body has a MUCH better chance at functioning optimally.

The Functional Evaluation

Another part of what I do (with Spokane, WA clients only, sorry to my virtuals!) is called the Functional Evaluation (FE).  The FE is a series of palpations and pressure points. It is a way for me to physically assess a client's body and feel for tissue congestion, stress, and  inflammation as well as potential nutritional deficiencies. After we finish the FE, I am able to perform Lingual Neuro Testing (LNT) to assess which nutrients are needed for a particular issue.  The basic idea behind LNT’ing is that the tongue is constantly communicating with the brain. Every time we put a food or nutrient in our mouth, the brain is saying, “Yes, I need this!” or “No, thank you!”  As a result, the nervous system lets out a big sigh of relief when we give the body what it needs. When this happens, you might have a particular point go from being very tender to not tender at all. That’s your body’s way of saying, “Yay!  You just gave me what I need!”

While our goal is to get our nutrients from food in their most natural state, in some cases, I might make supplement recommendations if they are deemed necessary.  Lingual Neuro Testing allows me to give recommendations that we know for certain will benefit you instead of taking a shot in the dark. Our bodies are very wise and once we learn how to listen to them, we have a whole window into wellness that seemed like it was non-existent before.  Gotta love it!
